INTRODUCTION
CLAY ROOF HOUSE
The first assignment given for Building Materials is an architect's building which requires us to discover and distinguish the appearance of a particular buildings. This project is designed as an introduction to building materials that are universally used in the construction industry.
We are separated in groups of 8, along with Carmen Chan, Khoo Sue Ling, Lim Jing Kai, Christal Wong, Lin Shan En, Chan Jia Chin, and Ooi Jun Yang, we selected a residential house in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia which was featured in the PAM (Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia) Award. We also selected this building because of its uniqueness of it's usage of raw building materials and extensive reuse of previous construction materials.
MATERIALS
CLAY ROOF HOUSE
The Clay Roof House contains prominent materials that reflect the appearance of the building. The owners actually purchased the old dilapilated house which contains many good quality Indian roof tiles. Due to the building placed in the direction of the West, it is exposed to the morning and afternoon sun. Thus, the clay roof tiles offer a good solution in vertically screen the building and acts like a facade.
On top of that, bricks are laid in a stretcher bond pattern whereby the interior of the house is mainly consisted of bricks. It leaves the raw feel of the material which portrays a warm environment and brick-red colour.
Apart from that, metal are used to support most of the materials. In contrast, metal are used in building up the facade of clay roof tiles.

The final submission requires two A2 boards which can be digitally done, but plan drawings or diagram are hand-drawn.
