Project Management

This module focuses on the project management of the working industry to expose to real life management and sequences of the construction process and procedures involved. The objective of the module is as follows:

  • To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources

  • To understand the basic stages of project management & roles of the different consultants in the construction industry

  • To understand the success criteria in evaluating a project

Project 1: We conducted a case study by interviewing an architect to understand the procedures and documents needed in managing a project from start to finish.

Project 1: DEFINING AND DOCUMENTING A PROJECT

This project introduces students to the definition of project management by working on a model of a project as a case study. The students will be introduced to the roles of Clients, Consultants and Contractors and other stakeholders involved in a project life cycle. They will learn how to identify project objectives and goals while understanding the implementation strategies to achieve a satisfactory project completion.

Through this assignment Project 1, I learnt about how projects can be complicated and needed a lot of attention from all consultants to be able to carry out task successfully. It is also important to have all consultants and contractor to cooperate with each other to ensure all risk and management are done efficiently and effectively.

Project 2: FINAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT REPORT

To document your own Design Studio Project from the point of view of an Architect, commissioned to undertake this project of Studio VI. 

The objectives of this project are as follows:

  •  To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources

  • To evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success.

  • To understand the means of evaluating and managing risks that can lead to success and failure in a project performance.
